Notebook: Vintage Indy 500 Photos by Larry Neuzel
Do you love to look at racing photos from days gone by? Larry Neuzel of Lexington, KY has been scanning slides and negatives of Indy 500, CanAm, and Formula 5000 photos he took in the early 1970s and is posting them on his web site, YesterdaysNeuz.com.
Larry has worked in television broadcasting for many years and is also the owner of Larry Neuzel Photography where the majority of his photography work has been concentrated in the areas of Theatre, Dance, and Children.
You owe it to yourself to take a moment to check these out… there are a lot of incredible photos there. As a photographer myself, one of the things I like about what Larry has done is that he has included multiple frames of the same subjects. I don’t know if they are literally all the frames he shot, but I love being able to see each subject in a slightly different position or from a different perspective because it gives you more of a sense of what was going on at the time.
The other thing I love about photos like these is that it reinforces one of the main reasons I take photos today… because someday they will be old photos! (and it might just take me 30 years to get all of mine online at the rate I’m going!)
If you’d like to help Larry support the site, he mentions that prints from some photos can purchased, and at very reasonable prices I might add.
Thanks Larry! And thanks to “irlricefan13″ at TrackForum for posting the link!

Thanks for the great piece about my dad’s photography. It has really been alot of hardwork scanning in all the photos. I have alot more to go. More than I have already scanned that’s for sure. Dad truely has a great eye for photography. He enjoys the cars on the track but really likes the pit action or the paddock scenes. I guess you would say he enjoys the candid photos, where people are just being themselves and not posing for a shot. Thanks for the great comments!
I enjoy your site as well. I will be making frequesnt visits to the site. Keep up the good work as I know wthe maintaining a website for others enjoyment is alot of work. It helps knowing people take notice!
