Notebook: Terre Haute Action Track’s 2007 Events in Jeopardy?

UPDATED: The “Horsepower Hour” show on ESPN Sports Radio reported today via IndianaOpenWheel.com that there is currently NO promoter contracted to operate there are concerns about the promotion of the track for 2007. This is bad news, folks! Terre Haute is a great, historic track that holds several classic events each year such as the Hut Hundred, Hulman Classic, Sumar Classic 100, a KISS date, and an Indiana Sprint Week date. Let’s hope they get it figured out in time to save the 2007 season.
Here is the quote from Tanya at ESPN Sports Radio via IndianaOpenWheel.com:
After the radio show last night we have been bombarded with several questions. The one question that has been the most asked is, “What’s going on with the Action Track?” Well, here is the latest as of today. Horsepower Hour contacted the Vigo County Fair Board and we where informed by Les Bowling of Vigo County Fair Board that there is NO promoter currently operating The Terre Haute Action Track. The race track has NO scheduled events on the books for the 2007 season. Mr. Bowling did say that USAC would like to schedule a show or two but there has been nothing singed as of today. There is a good possibility that there may be NO racing events on the legendary half mile for the 2007 season. This is sad news for the Terre Haute area and all of dirt track racing in general. Hopefully, someone will step forward and help bring back racing to one of the greatest dirt tracks in the nation. We will try to keep you informed with updates as we get them in.
A few hours later John posted this clarification:
I just got off the phone with David Hartman who is the president of The Vigo County Fair Board. Mr. Hartman clarified an earlier statement made by a fair board member. The statement was that, “there is no promoter for the action track”, this statement was not entirely accurate. Mr. Allison is still under contractual agreement with the fair board. The fair board has scheduled a meeting with Mr. Allison to address the fair boards concerns pertaining to the the Terre Haute Action Track situation.
I would like to say that after talking to Mr. Hartman I am convinced that the race track has a friend on the fair board. All the fair board really want’s for the most part is for someone to promote the historic half mile in the way that the facility should be promoted. Mr. Hartman said that he would keep us informed as much as possible on the issues surrounding the Action Track.
