Notebook: Best Birthday Present Ever!

I had a birthday a few months ago, and thought it would be fun to share a very special present that my kindergarten-aged son David made for me. David conceived, illustrated, and authored the following story about IndyCar racing (our favorite kind) all by himself. “Yeah, without even Mommy helping me AT ALL” he adds. With David’s assistance, I’ve scanned the pages and “translated” the captions below. As you can imagine, I was very impressed and very proud of his hard work, and David is very excited about putting his story on “our racing web site”.
So let the story begin…
IndyCar
The IndyCars are about to race… and they’re off!
This is the track up high. Do you see the Pagoda at the track?
This is the pits with Tony Kanaan.
Oh no, the good drivers crash!
Dan Wheldon wins the race!
Dan Wheldon is celebrating.
Great story, huh? What’s almost more amazing is the progress he’s made in just a few months of school. If he were to write it today it would be a lot easier to read, but I love it just the way it is. Thanks David! Great job, buddy!
