Notebook: A Random Thought About License Plates
Here in Indiana there’s been a little controversy of late regarding license plate fees. The state issues more than 60 specialty plates, for which there are various fees to support the organization named on the plate, plus an extra administrative fee. But one of the few plates that are exempt from the administrative fee is the “In God We Trust” plate pictured at left below. However, I happen to have the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum plate pictured at right below.

So yesterday, as I stood on the roof of the Gasoline Alley Suites at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway basking in the sunshine and taking in the glorious view of the Pagoda and front straight during Opening Day for the 2007 Indianapolis 500, this thought occured to me:
If people don’t have to pay extra to show their support for God, why do I have to pay extra to show my support for heaven? ![]()
