Notebook: New Feature: Sounds of Indiana Racing

Photos and videos are great, but there’s nothing quite like sound to transport you back to a specific time and place. I’m excited to introduce today what I think will be a great new feature at IndianaRacing.net: sound recordings from various racing events that really capture the feeling of “being there”.

Here’s the link: IndianaRacing.net Sound Recordings

I’m starting out with several sound galleries created during the month of May. You’ll get to hear sounds from Indy 500 practice and qualifying including Danica Patrick’s historic run, the party atmosphere of Carb Day, parts of the drivers meeting, and of course some very special and historic sounds from race day from Jim Nabors singing Back Home Again in Indiana to the late-race duel between Danica Patrick and Dan Wheldon. For sprint car fans, I also have sounds recorded during this year’s Hoosier Hundred. Coming soon I will have sounds recorded during practice and qualifying for the US Grand Prix.

The recordings are designed to capture all of the sounds around me, just as I experienced them when I was at the event. So not only will you hear the sounds of cars, but you’ll also hear pieces of conversations, people walking on metal bleachers, noisy coolers opening and closing, and all sorts of interesting things. For more about the technical aspects of making the recordings, be sure to read About the Sounds.
