Notebook: IndianaRacing.net Updates

Time to catch up on some general site news… or should I call it “Adventures in Web Publishing”?

First, you may have noticed that there is a new section at the top of the home page called “Latest News and Press”. This section will highlight the latest news articles and press releases that I had previously been putting in the Web Log. The web log isn’t really the right place for them, but it took me a while to get around to creating a new section of the site for them. The home page will list the most recent five articles, with a link to the new Indiana Racing News and Press section located under “News”.

I have created two new RSS feeds for your newsreading enjoyment. In addition to the existing Web Log feed, there are now feeds for the News and Press section as well as the Articles section. All RSS feeds are available on the RSS Feeds page. A link to the RSS Feeds page will also be added to the home page.

In the Marketplace, the Indiana Racing Travel Center has been launched. Created in association with TravelNow.com and Hotels.com, the Travel Center will allow you to book travel anywhere in the world. Flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, you name it, it’s in there.

I never got around to announcing the IndianaRacing.net Zeitgeist for December 2005, but here it is:

In case you didn’t already know, “zeitgeist” is a German word meaning “the general intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era”. Web sites use the term zeitgeist when referring to the words and phrases people use to search the web, the theory being that someday it will be interesting to see what things were popular during different periods of time.

As I checked my site stats toward the end of January 2006, I could conjure up images of Tom Carnegie bellowing “It’s a newwwww traaaaack recooooord!” January was not only a new record, it was a complete blowout! So a big “thanks” goes out to everyone that has visited IndianaRacing.net recently. I promise there is much more good stuff to come.
