Notebook: I Always Wanted to be in Racer Magazine…

And now, there I am… in the latest issue of Racer Magazine! Well, um, sort of, er, kinda anyway.
At the end of the 2006 US Grand Prix I was in the Tower Terrace grandstands stretching my arms up as high as I could trying to get photos of the top 3 drivers on the Victory Podium. While I did manage to get a few decent shots, I also got A LOT of absolutely, completely worthless shots that were aimed into outer space, out of focus, had arms, heads and who knows what else in there.
So last week, when I got the new issue of Racer, I noticed that there was a photo towards the back on page 101 of Felipe Massa giving the “victory” sign to the Ferrari crew members below (either that or he was saying “I’m number two!” or maybe just “Peace!”). Upon closer inspection, I noticed myself in the background, arms and camera reaching up over my head.
But was it really me? It had to be! I could see the hat I was wearing and the camera looked like the only black Nikon DSLR in the shot. But who would believe me? So I searched through my photos from that day and found conclusive proof! Check this out!
Here’s the photo from Racer, shot by Steven Tee of LAT:

And now here’s my photo, which had to have been taken at almost the exact same instant. Look at Massa’s fingers and at the position of Ross Brawn (and the guy in front of me sticking his camera into my shot).

So is that synchronicity or what? The mind boggles…
