Notebook: Dean Lange’s Most Excellent Unofficial Indy 500 Pace Car
I always like to see race fans having FUN, and this certainly qualifies. IndianaRacing.net member Dean Lange drove his Unofficial Indy 500 Pace Car all the way from Iowa, and I met him in the parking lot on Saturday before the race on the way to the Drivers Meeting. Dedicated fans like Dean are a big part of what truly makes the Indianapolis 500 the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”.

The 4 names listed on the quarter panel are the ones responsable for createing what we call “The Indy Cruiser” it is a 85 Impala my father bought new. My dad got me hooked on Indy about 1975, he started attending in the late 40’s and has nearly 50 500’s under his belt, I have attended over 25. My wife Brenda has attended over 12 500’s. Justin and Janelle have nearly 20 to there score. Justins friend Jeff at Top Line Graphics played a big part in making this possible with his talents and time at the vinyl cutter. 2005 was the 2nd trip for the “Cruiser” turning over 200,000 miles on the way home in 04. The car was blue but a gallon of implement paint, a few cans of spray foam to fill the rust holes and a couple 2 X 6’s for a rear bumber and the Cruiser was born. The White Spokes and Firestone Indy 500 Firehawks were added for 05. Any luck and dads health will allow him to attend in 06, we will be camped in Lot 2 so stop by and say hello.

I vote that this be the official Indy 500 pace car from now on! Great job!
