Finally, for Hoosier short track fans, the 2007 season arrived with a bang. Races all over this great state and fans left quite pleased, for the most part. There were plenty of new faces, new teams, and new team combinations, all with high hopes. There were plenty of kids, many of whom cannot vote and who need not shave just yet. They have much promise, but at least three tracks saw veterans come away with the trophy and the dollars. The young drivers will have their day; time will dictate that, if nothing else. But this one belonged to the guys who have already paid some dues. read more »

First things first: if you’re expecting to go to the Lawrenceburg Speedway’s annual race party called Funfest and see great, crowd pleasing races, forget it right now. But if you’re expecting to see all kinds of race cars take to the bull ring for a few more fast laps one last time, if you’re expecting to visit with good friends once more before the off-season sets in, then you really need to go. read more »

The corn here would be telling farmers, “pick me!” if it could talk. With harvesting crops, as in life, timing is crucial. One must be ready to act at the right time and then execute with excellence. This includes showing up for the 2006 version of the Lawrenceburg Speedway’s Fall Classic (sanctioned by the Midwest Sprint Car Series) as Levi Jones won the Friday night preliminary with a $2000 payoff and Shane Cottle won the Saturday night 50 lap feature, taking home a cool $10,000. read more »

If Dickie Gaines is a gambler, maybe he should have doubled his bet this past weekend. After winning at Bloomington with a last lap pass, he had it comparatively easy the following night at Lawrenceburg, winning by several car lengths. Of course that is with hindsight, which is most always 20/20, unless you have blinders on, which way too many politicians do these days (what else is new?). read more »
