We went to a different church this morning (Lutheran) and the minister spoke of hope and how crucial it is to have it in our lives. So I didn’t exactly doze off; instead I thought of Josh Cunningham, who posted his first sprint car victory at the Bloomington Speedway on Friday night, after many years of trying. And I thought of Jon Stanbrough, who has re-assumed his well-earned description as maybe the best of Hoosier short-track open wheelers. All Jon did was win going away at Terre Haute on Saturday night in King of Indiana Sprint Series action, and also take the 2006 KISS points championship, too. read more »

Maybe there is something within some of us that causes us to want to predict, or guess, the outcome of events, especially races of all types. Indiana, I suppose, is a short track race fan’s dream. This past weekend a serious race fan could have seen four races in three days had (s)he the time and money. Bloomington, Indiana… Last night at Bloomington was the final sprint car program of the year and it was one to remember for the off-season. It was the classic story line of one having victory in his sights before things went very wrong for him. And another was in the right spot at the right time, showing that Yogi Berra was right: It ain’t over till it’s over. Jon Stanbrough was the beneficiary of Dave Darland’s misfortune, namely a flat tire at the very end of the race. Stanbrough won by literally inches as Darland slid across the start/finish line after his tire blew on the last turn of the last lap. And, if this wasn’t enough, a last turn/last lap pass decided the UMP modified feature as well. read more »
