The Hoosier Race Report: The Inevitability of Jon Stanbrough

By Danny Burton

Did you ever see something, or someone, and somehow seem to know what was going to happen? An easterly wind most always means rain is on the way at some point in the near future. If you’re having a good time, and drinking a few more adult beverages more than you should, you have a great chance of waking up the next morning not feeling so good. Sprint car camp followers, especially here in Indiana, can count on seeing each other fairly often when sprint car racing happens, which is quite often. And if you by chance catch the eye of a pretty lady, then… well, never mind. That rule, obviously, doesn’t always apply. But these days, in these parts, if you go to a race where Jon Stanbrough is entered, you almost know who the winner will be. And this weekend just past, at both Gas City/I-69 Speedway and at Twin Cities Raceway Park, Mr. Stanbrough’s victories were inevitable.   read more »

By Danny Burton

It’s the age old debate, shall youth or veterans prevail? Sometimes it’s one; other times it’s the other. And as one gets older and reaches milestones, one will be fortunate enough to watch yesterday’s youth become today’s veterans. So this weekend here in the Hoosier state, it was two of yesterday’s youngsters who took home both the money and the prestige. Jon Stanbrough, certainly not an old racer, was the victor in the inaugural Midwest Sprint Car Series appearance at the Bloomington Speedway. And A.J. Anderson, not a youngster any more either, made the trip south to the Lawrenceburg Speedway to capture the $3000 in winning the Dick Gaines Memorial.   read more »

This will be dedicated to all the race fans, race teams, and anyone else whoever showed up at a race hoping to see some great racing, Indiana style, and were turned away because someone said that the weather would be too bad to race, or said that the track was not prepared properly.   read more »

By Danny Burton

Making it three wins in a row, Jon Stanbrough came from the 13th starting position at Gas City/I-69 Speedway to remind USAC’s finest that he and the Fox Brothers team are for real. Of course this was as if they needed convincing. On a track that became very dusty fairly early in the 30 lap feature Stanbrough “patiently” made his way to the front, winning by a few car lengths over pole sitter Levi Jones with A.J. Anderson third after a very trying night of ups, downs, and more ups. The feature winner came back after a tip-over in his heat race while Anderson came back after a tumble in his heat race, overcoming great odds and obstacles.   read more »

The Hoosier Race Report: Jon Stanbrough’s Way

By Danny Burton

Maybe Saturday night’s race wasn’t the best or the closest race I’ve ever seen, at the Tri-State Speedway or anywhere else, but it was certainly close to the best I’ve ever seen. Jon Stanbrough bided his time as he worked his way forward to take round three of Indiana Sprint Week at the Helfrich family’s crown jewel of a race track.   read more »
