Whether or not we realize or care, we all have lines in our lives. These lines are seen or unseen. They can be real or imagined. They can be lines we draw ourselves or have our society or culture draw them instead. Sometimes we foolishly cross those lines and pay a serious price. But no matter what these lines are or what they mean, we’d be best advised to be aware of them. For Jon Stanbrough on Friday night at the Gas City/I-69 Speedway, lines were important. Though it may not have been totally visible, Jon’s line was real. It happened to be the one he used to run off with the sprint feature after starting 11th. I am continually amazed at how much faith that people will have in other people, events, ideas, you name it, yet deny that they have any faith in most anything, be it religion, the weather, again, you name it. Fact is, we do have plenty of faith and we all too often take it for granted. read more »

Real cowboys and real sheriffs might chuckle at the notion that race car drivers could have nicknames such as “The Modern Day Cowboy” or the “Sheriff.” But Daron Clayton and Jon Stanbrough, nonetheless, have received those names from announcers, writers, and/or fans, with Stanbrough’s title often preceded by the word “real.” And dirt late model racer John Gill was called “The Modern Day Cowboy” when Mr. Clayton was in diapers. read more »

Indiana Sprint Week has finally arrived amid all sorts of controversy, hopes, dreams, expectations, and mostly a good time to be had, especially by race fans. One of our human needs is something to forward to doing, seeing, or having. Another race weekend, Indiana’s biggest, is complete as this is written. Rain was the winner at some tracks and it also was a huge factor in our biggest race. But the rain stayed away from both Bloomington and Lawrenceburg as many of us had a glimpse of the future, Jeff Bland Jr. and the present, Jon Stanbrough. Young Bland won the Friday night feature at Bloomington while Stanbrough ran away with the 30 lap feature at the ‘burg as part of the King of Indiana Sprint Series. read more »
