2006 MotoGP Champion Nicky Hayden turned the first laps by a motorcycle on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s recently reconfigured road course, riding a restored 1909 Indian motorcycle that competed in the Speedway’s first race on August 14, 1909. After the historic first lap on the Indian, Hayden made several laps on a Honda production bike before speaking to the media. The event was staged in preparation for the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP, to be held September 14, 2008.   read more »

The annual IndyCar season opener party featuring the Gainsco Auto Insurance Indy 300 live from Homestead-Miami Speedway, and a silent auction to benefit the Brian’s Wish Foundation will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on March 29, 2008. By all accounts, this is a great way to have fun, meet fellow IndyCar fans, and build (even more) excitement for the upcoming 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 in May. Though not yet announced by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it’s apparent that Stone Temple Pilots will headline the now-traditional Carb Day concert on May 23, 2008. The date was listed on Blabbermouth.net (sounds like a trustworthy source, right?) as part of the reunited Stone Temple Pilots 2008 tour. In addition, the hard rock band Chevelle announced during an interview on Indianapolis radio station X103 that they would perform at the Speedway on Fast Friday May 9.
