Just as the 2006 version of Indiana Sprint Week left a bad memory, the 2007 edition, the 20th, should be a good memory for the overwhelming majority of all involved in varying degrees. New track records, both in time trials and crowd counts, have been set. New faces along with the familiar ones have appeared or reappeared. And the beat goes on as potential issues such as rain, higher prices for most everything, especially gas, failed to deter fans and teams. read more »

Real cowboys and real sheriffs might chuckle at the notion that race car drivers could have nicknames such as “The Modern Day Cowboy” or the “Sheriff.” But Daron Clayton and Jon Stanbrough, nonetheless, have received those names from announcers, writers, and/or fans, with Stanbrough’s title often preceded by the word “real.” And dirt late model racer John Gill was called “The Modern Day Cowboy” when Mr. Clayton was in diapers. read more »

Indiana Sprint Week has finally arrived amid all sorts of controversy, hopes, dreams, expectations, and mostly a good time to be had, especially by race fans. One of our human needs is something to forward to doing, seeing, or having. And Sprint Week, for open wheel race fans from all over, is one of those events that many folks mark on their calendars as soon as they get their hands on a calendar. read more »

Maybe Saturday night’s race wasn’t the best or the closest race I’ve ever seen, at the Tri-State Speedway or anywhere else, but it was certainly close to the best I’ve ever seen. Jon Stanbrough bided his time as he worked his way forward to take round three of Indiana Sprint Week at the Helfrich family’s crown jewel of a race track. read more »
