If Dickie Gaines is a gambler, maybe he should have doubled his bet this past weekend. After winning at Bloomington with a last lap pass, he had it comparatively easy the following night at Lawrenceburg, winning by several car lengths. Of course that is with hindsight, which is most always 20/20, unless you have blinders on, which way too many politicians do these days (what else is new?). read more »

It’s the age old debate, shall youth or veterans prevail? Sometimes it’s one; other times it’s the other. And as one gets older and reaches milestones, one will be fortunate enough to watch yesterday’s youth become today’s veterans. So this weekend here in the Hoosier state, it was two of yesterday’s youngsters who took home both the money and the prestige. Jon Stanbrough, certainly not an old racer, was the victor in the inaugural Midwest Sprint Car Series appearance at the Bloomington Speedway. And A.J. Anderson, not a youngster any more either, made the trip south to the Lawrenceburg Speedway to capture the $3000 in winning the Dick Gaines Memorial. read more »

On a weekend when open wheel racing here held its annual salute to a couple of its long gone fraternity, we saw a young racer hold off two of the best in two different races at the Salem Speedway. Whether it is to be in Indy cars or in NASCAR, Bryan Clauson is quite possibly going to be the next area racer to make his mark on racing at its national level. And by the way, we saw yet another first time winner on Friday night at Bloomington, namely Hunter Schuerenberg. read more »

Not always is our hard work rewarded at least not when we’d like it to be. But like many cliches, the one about good things coming to those who wait (and work) is often true. And this past weekend the efforts of Brady Short, Tony Beaber, and their respective teams, paid off. Both won hard fought features at Bloomington and Lawrenceburg. Both earned their wins. So what if only one is a Hoosier. For my money, Tony Beaber is an honorary Hoosier, seeing that he’s a regular the da ‘burg and is one of the newest members of the Hoosier Auto Race Fans club. read more »

Yet another hot and humid Hoosier weekend it was. Like a few hundred of my closest pals I refrained from staying inside, preferring to be at an area short track. I’m glad I did. Not only did I get to see a couple of first time winners, I spent some good times with plenty of like minded friends. We could not care less how each other vote, worship, or work. We only enjoyed the racing and the company, in no particular order. But Brad Sweet at Bloomington, along with Derek Franks at Lawrenceburg, quite possibly enjoyed themselves even more than the fans. Brad garnered his first sprint car win at the Bloomington Speedway while Derek outran Brett Burdette to take his first sprinter victory anywhere at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. read more »
