As yet another racing season in the Midwest slowly reaches its end, so do other matters, or even careers. Kevin Briscoe has had a racing career that is one we all could admire, but one should remember that first and foremost, he doesn’t race for a living. Instead he races for the love and joy of it all. I may be repeating myself, but years ago I was having a conversation with my sister-in-law about our respective jobs. Her comment was something along the lines of… if you’re making your job look easy, then you’re probably doing a good job. We all know, or should know, that driving any race car on any track is seldom, if ever, easy. But this past weekend, Jeff Bland Jr., Kevin Swindell, and Levi Jones, among many others, made it look easy as they made their way to victories at both Bloomington and Lawrenceburg. read more »

Just as the 2006 version of Indiana Sprint Week left a bad memory, the 2007 edition, the 20th, should be a good memory for the overwhelming majority of all involved in varying degrees. New track records, both in time trials and crowd counts, have been set. New faces along with the familiar ones have appeared or reappeared. And the beat goes on as potential issues such as rain, higher prices for most everything, especially gas, failed to deter fans and teams. read more »

People need an escape. We all need to get away, if only for a short while. Home, work, family, money, and health issues can drag one down from time to time. So we need to take a break, put the issues aside for a few hours or days even. And for race fans, the method of escape is a no-brainer. Whether it’s for a weekend or for several days, the race fan needing a respite from everything from clueless bosses, ex-spouses, or the day to day trials, heads for a favorite race track, rather than watch a race on TV. So my solution to this problem of getting away was to… get away. First to Bloomington on Friday and then over to Lawrenceburg on Saturday night. read more »
