Gallery: 2007 NHRA Mac Tools US Nationals Qualifying

The NHRA Mac Tools US Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park is quickly becoming my second most favorite event on the Indiana motorsports calendar. There is simply no other sport that can match the raw power and intensity of NHRA drag racing, and every one of the competitors speak about the event with the same kind of reverence the open-wheel ranks show to the Indianapolis 500. Once again, these photos were taken from inside a moving track tour bus. With a few more laps in that thing I think I will qualify for a free upgrade to first class.   read more »

Spotlight: The Pucker Factor

You might look at this photo of Indy Pro Series drivers Tom Wierenga (#40) and Al Unser III (#12) dicing it up at about 190 mph on the front straight of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 2007 Freedom 100 and think “Dang, that’s some tight racing! Those drivers must have nerves of steel!” (or perhaps something more colorful). And to that I’d say, “Forget about the guys protected by helmets and carbon fiber… check out the photographer!”   read more »
