So now it’s “officially official”… 2006 Indy 500 Winner and 3-time IndyCar Series Champion Sam Hornish Jr. is off to try his hand at NASCAR. This photo was taken as Sam sped away on the back of a golf cart, shortly after winning the 2006 Indy 500 and finishing with the media. Somehow it seemed apropos for the news. There are a lot of different viewpoints on this whole deal and they’re all just a few clicks away on a countless number of internet message boards. But I guess all I have to say is “Good luck Sam… thanks for the memories, and maybe we’ll see you at the Brickyard in July!”   read more »

The legendary Jungle Park Speedway, located on US 41 in Marshall, IN just north of Rockville, is a special place indeed. Running off and on from 1926 until 1960, the track was the scene of some exciting racing and good times, but also of some savage accidents. For the last several years, race fans have gathered at Jungle Park on the last weekend in September to learn about the track and its history, share stories, buy and sell memorabilia and car parts, see vintage cars, and just generally have a good time. If you’re a sprint car fan, you’ve got to see this! (And if you’re not a sprint car fan, what’s wrong with you?) Mills Video Productions, the official Videographer of USAC, has released an outstanding trailer for their latest video, the 2006 USAC National Sprint Car Year in Review. About three and a half minutes in length, the trailer features highlights from the 2006 season and is set to an absolutely rockin’ song called “Alive” by an Ohio band named Hair of the Dog. It’s an almost 12Mb download, but well worth it. The link is available from the Mills Video Productions home page, and after you view it you’ll want to head right back to their site to buy the entire 2-DVD, 4-hour production. I did!
