Music: “500 Miles to Go” by Charlie Stewart

Here’s another cool little record I found in an online record store (ain’t the internet great?). Side 1 has a song called “500 Miles to Go”, while side 2 has a non-racing-related song called “Gentleman Jim”. Both are recorded by Charlie Stewart.
I don’t know much about Charlie Stewart or this record, when it was recorded, or anything like that unfortunately. One side is inscribed “Thanks Kokomo - Charlie Stewart”. So perhaps he performed this in Kokomo “back in the day”. I do know that the song “Gentleman Jim” is a tribute to “Gentleman Jim Reeves”, an internationally-acclaimed country music singer in the 50’s and 60’s. Reeves died in July 1964, so obviously this song would have been recorded sometime later.
Both songs are performed in a “classic” country style, not like the stuff you hear today. There’s some good banjo pickin’ on 500 Miles to Go. Enjoy!
