I’ve been working my way through the sound recordings I made during the month of May, 2007 and was struck by this one. While I remembered the photos I had taken, I had forgotten that I also recorded this performance.
It’s difficult to take photographs and record sounds at the same time, especially when the microphones are mounted in your ears! Unfortunately you can hear the shutter of both my camera and that of another photographer next to me, and because I had to turn my head a few times the sounds swirl around from left to right a little. But I still think the talent of these ladies comes through loud and clear. I remember being very impressed with their performance at the time and I’m happy that I discovered this recording again.
To me, the experience of the Indianapolis 500 and everything that surrounds it is made up of little slices of time like this. For all kinds of reasons, it’s not always possible to “capture the moment” but I’m glad that I was able to capture this one and share it with all of you.
