Sprint car legend, Hoosier Auto Racing Fans (HARF) Hall of Famer and auctioneer Butch Wilkerson conducts the “Last Ditch Auction” at the 2007 Hoosier Racers Swap Meet & Trade Show.

I shot this at a pretty wide angle, because I wanted to capture the crowd and the hall in the background as Butch did his thing. I had to wait for the right moment too, when he was turned enough that I could see at least part of his face. So there I am, up on stage, real close because of the wide angle, and waiting forever for just the right angle. As much as I like this photo the way it turned out, I wish I had the presence of mind to shoot another one once Butch noticed I was there and he paused for just a split second and looked at me like “what the…?”

What a guy!!!!Boy do I remember Butch. Please are they having this in 2008? When and where?
I live in Florida, but I’ll fly in just to see Butch. Does anyone know where I can get in touch with him? thanks

Yes, the Hoosier Racers Swap Meet and Trade Show will be held January 26, 2008. I don’t know if Butch will be there or not. For more info, go to http://www.shoestringracing.com
