USAC Silver Crown Cars pass by the historic horse barns outside turn one at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

This photo just says “Hoosier Hundred” to me. I love the fact that the race is held at the Fairgrounds, where there have been auto races for over one hundred years, back to the days of Barney Oldfield and the “horseless carriage”. Old buildings surround the track, and the atmosphere is romantic and rich with history.

In this shot I held my camera on top of a guardrail post to steady it. I used the rear-sync setting on my flash and a shutter speed of 1/20 second to make sure I captured the sense of motion in the cars. I have to admit though… the race was under a yellow flag when I shot this. There’s no way I would have tried it when they were under green!
