Tower Terrace

Tower Terrace Location

Tower Terrace is located on the inner west side of the track along the front straight, behind pit road. Tower Terrace is bordered on the north by the Gate 7 tunnel and a grassy area, and on the south by the Victory Podium and Pagoda. The Tower Suites are located directly behind Tower Terrace sections 49-79, and the Media Center is located behind sections 37-48.

According to a 2004 count conducted by Indianapolis Star reporter Curt Cavin, Tower Terrace has 22,564 seats.

Tower Terrace sections start at section 79 on the north side next to the Gate 7 tunnel and run through section 37 on the south side next to the Victory Podium and Pagoda. Rows are A through MM in most sections. Tower Terrace also includes 24 wheelchair positions, located in front of the Media Center.

Tower Terrace History

Built in 1957, extension started that same year.
Extension completed in 1958.
Four sections added to south end in 1978.
Extension, suites, and aluminum seating added in 1990.
Fencing installed in front of Tower Terrace stands at north end in 1994.
Renovated in 2003.

Sure…..all the “Old High Priests” of Indy that sit perched in the coveted E Stand Penthouse will tell you that they sit in the “holy of holy” seats. Well, I say to each their own! To the contrary, I’ve been beholding the spectacle from Tower Terrace, down in the pits on the Start/Finish line for many years now. The view from down there is a lot like being in the middle of Times Square, New York on New Year’s Eve. The sight of 300,000 spectators above you, behind you, a half mile to your left and a half mile to your right is an absolutely incredible sight. I’ll be sitting next to the Pagoda for the rest of my life. Carl Johnson
