Southwest Vista Location

Southwest Vista is located on the outer southwest side of the track beginning just past the apex of turn one and continuing through the exit of turn one (USGP turn thirteen). Southwest Vista is bordered on the west by E Stand, and on the east by the South Vista. Note that on the east side, the stands switch from Southwest Vista to South Vista (at Southwest Vista section 20) even though they are part of the same physical structure.

According to a 2004 count conducted by Indianapolis Star reporter Curt Cavin, Southwest Vista has 14,310 seats.

Southwest Vista sections start at section 1 on the west side next to E Stand and run through section 20 on the east side where the stand abruptly changes to South Vista. Rows are A - RR. There is a deck above Southwest Vista, rows are A&B.

these seats are just OK in my opinion……

you can see coming out of turn one into the short chute and some good action there; through two and as they go away from you down the back stretch……

i’ve always preferred to see cars coming towards me so i wasn’t that “happy” when i sat here……..

park in the infield if you can or be ready to walk……..

there is “action” there most years…….
last time was aj IV, i saw sneva’s deal and it scared the devil out of me……….

the seats are OK

race on

Everyone has their reasons for where they like to sit. But for me, SW Vista is the best seat in the house for the money.

I have tried SE Vista, NE Vista, NW Vista, and Tower Terrace. I’ve sat in the SW Vista for almost 20 Indy 500s. To me, there is nothing more exciting than the first green flag lap of the race. Since you can’t see down the front stretch, you rely on the PA and video board. You know the cars are coming - you can see them on the screen and hear them pass Tom Carnegie on the PA. But when the next thing you see are the cars coming right at you through the turn…..WOW. It’s quite amazing and hard to describe - I guess you just have to experience it.

You can also see quite a bit. 100% of turn 1, the short chute, and through 2. Trying to watch a car going 240 mph down a staightaway is not enjoyable to me. The Indycars are too fast for that.

The only other stand that I desire to be in would be Stand E. But for a regular ticketholder, I’ll keep my SW Vista and work towards upgrading to E.

My regular seats for the 500 are in section 2 of the SW Vista. Nice stand. Goes up at a higher angle than the older stands so double letter rows are closer to track.

For me, it is too far out of the exit of turn one than I would like. I cannot see any of the front straight. Only past pit out.

However, 75% of the “action” in 2007 happened right in front of us. Like, the previous reviewer, E would be better, but they’ll never be available.

Would I love to be in E Stand? Of course I would. However, I love sitting in my SW Vista Deck seat. I just wish I could get another ticket but that like getting into E Stand will be next to impossible. I would like to get the ticket to my left as the guy that sits there is either too cold, too hot or too wet. Never could figure people out who come to a race and always want the weather to be perfect. In May in Indy, it will never happen.

SW Vista. Any one familiar with the view from these seats. I’m thinking you can see up the straight , but not quite certain?????????

Chuck, I think Crispy’s post above is probably the closest point of view that you will get.

What a great race. I’m trying to upgrade to higher seats. See you in 2009. Only 359 days left.

Just wondering what section would be better to sit in SW Vista or NE Vista? I have never been to the Indy track and will attending the Allstate 400 in a couple weeks. Also does anyone know what area would be safe for 3 women to stay? We have made not so good choices in the past for different cities and would like to be able to relax and have fun. Thanks for your help!!!!
