I’ve been sitting in the H stand for 6 years for the Indy 500. I have to say I enjoy these stands very much. I sit in section 9 which is in front of one of the giant jumbo screens. This keeps me informed of track events that can’t see. If you’re high enough in these stands you can see the cars come thru turn 3, around the short chute, thru 4 and down the front straight. One of the great things about this stand is the pre race flyover. Always very close and sometimes an exciting surprise.

(Section 4 Row W) GREAT VIEW OF F1 RACE, CAN SEE BRAKING ZONE TO TURN 1, CAN SEE TURNS 2,3,4,5,6
ONE OF THE BEST PASSING AREAS FOR F1, GREAT EXCITEMENT DURING BRAKING FROM 200+ FOR TURN 1

(Section 20 Row Q) These seats were good in ‘05. You could see the all of the frontstretch and most of turn four. You couldn’t see much pit action, but during restarts and the start was the best. You could hear them go through the gears and the pace car pull off.

For the past 9 years we have sit in the tower terrace. This year will be the first time in (H). I will get back to you on this one. How about no rain, and a first time in history win (Go #7) on Sunday, May 25, 2008

(H Stand, Section 11, Row S, 2009) Perhaps not the best seats, but priced accordingly and a reasonably good value; you’ll have a very good time if the weather cooperates. Good view of Turn 4, the north half of the front straight, and the entrance to the pits; but you don’t see pit action or anything down near the finish line except cars merging into a narrow point half a mile away. Great view of a Jumbotron across the track which helps you keep track of what’s going on elsewhere. Starts are very exciting here, as you hear the drivers accelerating into Turn 4. I don’t recommend sitting much lower than Row S, because cars are on the outside of the track coming through Turn 4 and some are likely to slide out and hit the wall right in front of you, but if you’re down too low, the wall blocks your view. One nice feature, at least in 2009: H stands were only about 40% occupied, so there was plenty of room to spread out if you wanted. We had nice, friendly seat neighbors, mostly Indy locals who made a last-minute decision to get tickets to the race from the box office, but if we hadn’t, it would have been easy to move 50 feet away to unoccupied seats. You are exposed to the weather here, which wasn’t a problem in 2009. Concessions and bathrooms are less than five minutes away, under H stand.

Sorry, this is very OCD, I know, but there’s one key word I goofed on and wish I could edit: I should have said “cars are on the outside of the track **exiting** Turn 4,” in front of J Stand. As they cross H Stand, they are generally crossing back to the center of the track. But if they’re up against the wall in an accident, as a few were in 2009, you can’t see them, unless the collision with the wall causes them to veer back across the track. Nonetheless, I think most people in H stand will be happiest at least in Row S if not higher. I don’t think it’s best to be low in H Stand or J Stand, because you’d miss out on some key action.
