Celebrate IMS Centennial Era With 2009 ‘Grounds Tour’
At a venue where history has been made for a century, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Hall of Fame Museum will in 2009 set a record for the most behind-the-scenes Grounds Tours in a season. The Museum’s popular Grounds Tour, which provides a great opportunity to entertain family, friends or clients with a 90-minute tour rich in IMS history and landmarks, will take place on a record 68 days in 2009. Centennial Era Balloon Festival To Launch May Schedule
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will start its 2009 season the same way the facility’s rich history began 100 years ago: with a balloon race. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Centennial Era Balloon Festival will take place Friday, May 1-Sunday, May 3. It will be the first competitive event of the Speedway’s 2009-2011 Centennial Era. ‘Vintage’ Red Bull Indianapolis GP Trophies Thrill MotoGP Stars
Something about the podium celebration Sept. 14 at the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP looked quite familiar to Rick Kottlowski. “That’s Grandpa’s trophy!” Kottlowski said. Winner Valentino Rossi, second place Nicky Hayden and third place Jorge Lorenzo raised unique podium finishers’ trophies that were designed to resemble the cup-style awards presented to winners of the first motor races at IMS, motorcycle events in August 1909. Americans To Race In All Three MotoGP Classes In 2009
In 2009, American riders will race in all three classes of MotoGP competition for the first time since 1990, including in the second annual Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. 2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards and John Hopkins will represent the United States in the premier MotoGP class, while Stevie Bonsey climbs to the 250cc class. IMS Unveils Centennial Era-Themed Event Logos For 2009 Season
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway recently unveiled the logos for all three motor racing events in 2009 at the legendary Brickyard, the 93rd Indianapolis 500, 16th Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and second Red Bull Indianapolis GP. All three event logos share a similar design element in the bottom section, incorporating the words “Centennial Era” in reference to IMS’ celebration of the 100th anniversary of the facility in 2009.
