It’s official! As rumored for months (years?), world-class MotoGP motorcycle racing will be coming to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on September 14, 2008. The 2008 event will be the first in a three-year contract that was announced and signed at the Speedway yesterday. read more »

People need an escape. We all need to get away, if only for a short while. Home, work, family, money, and health issues can drag one down from time to time. So we need to take a break, put the issues aside for a few hours or days even. And for race fans, the method of escape is a no-brainer. Whether it’s for a weekend or for several days, the race fan needing a respite from everything from clueless bosses, ex-spouses, or the day to day trials, heads for a favorite race track, rather than watch a race on TV. So my solution to this problem of getting away was to… get away. First to Bloomington on Friday and then over to Lawrenceburg on Saturday night. read more »

Photos taken on Pole Day for the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500, May 12, 2007. A good crowd was on hand to enjoy the fantastic weather and watch a dramatic last-minute duel between Sam Hornish Jr., Tony Kanaan, and Helio Castroneves. Though Dario Franchitti hung onto first place for most of the day, it was Helio Castroneves who would go home with the AAMCO Transmissions Pole Award and a check for $100,000. read more »

With apologies to Sly and the Family Stone, that title works really well this week. For the first time in his young life, my grandson accompanied me to both races that I attended this weekend. I watched him as much as I watched the racing. And he will hopefully remember this weekend with as much fondness as the feature winners this week, namely Bobby Stines at Bloomington, and Joss Moffatt at Lawrenceburg. read more »
