It was “engine specs night” at Donald Davidson’s Indy 500 History class on Tuesday April 17th. I have to admit that the mere thought of engine specs makes my eyes glaze over at times, but if you ignore the actual specifications themselves and just focus on the impact they had on determining who came to compete and some of the mechanical innovation that took place over the years, the discussions can still be quite entertaining. read more »

Dale the Movie will be shown twice during the 2007 Indianapolis International Film Festival. Created by NASCAR and Country Music Television, the film is the first to have the support and endorsement of the Earnhardt family and Richard Childress Racing. The 100-minute documentary is narrated by Paul Newman and uses archival race footage, never-before-seen family home videos and interviews with Earnhardt himself to tell the story. Showings are April 27th @ 6:30pm and April 30 @ 5:30pm at Key Cinemas, located at 4044 South Keystone Ave in Indianapolis.

For the second weekend in a row, races in Indiana have fallen victim to the weather. Scoffers of the theory that global warming is already happening are scoffing even more. Global warming advocates no doubt are protesting that a few days or weeks’ worth of weather is not an accurate barometer. From here, it would seem that both are wrong. For sure there are climate changes going on, never mind this weekend’s weather. But a few weeks or even a few years does not a climate trend tell. One needs a sense of perspective before declaring that the sky is falling or that all is well. And this has plenty to do with short track promoters. read more »

If you haven’t already heard of Joost (pronounced like “juiced”), you might have read the title of this article and figured “Joost” must be the name of a wealthy new ride-buying driver from the Netherlands. Or perhaps that it was the result of a spell-check gone horribly wrong. But neither of those are correct. Joost is the name of a new and exciting internet-based service that could completely revolutionize the way television is distributed and consumed, and the potential impact on motorsports could be even larger than the introduction of broadcast television to the sport many years ago. read more »
