About 35 years ago, give or take a couple, I recall going to the Salem Speedway and seeing a brash young man named Darrell Waltrip hustle a stock car around the high banks as well or better than anyone I’ve ever seen there. Darrell was originally from a mid-sized city in western Kentucky called Owensboro. And another young man from Owensboro, namely Beau Mitchell, negotiated the old track on Sunday better than anyone else as he edged Chuck Barnes Sr. to win the wild and crazy Halloween 200.   read more »
