On a day in which clear and sunny skies smiled over the Winchester Speedway, it was hard to see who was the happiest: USAC Sprint Car winner Dave Darland, or Winchester head man Charlie Shaw. A huge crowd was on hand for this final race of the season at the scary fast half mile paved paperclip oval. The late and great Rich Vogler, who Darland had raced with before Vogler’s untimely death in 1990 at the Salem Speedway, was also honored as the race was named for him. Rich’s mother Eleanor, with much help from John Hoover, kept busy raising money for the Rich Vogler Scholarship Fund. And it should be noted that this was Dave Darland’s first feature win on the high banks. read more »

A very special, one-of-a-kind (well, actually two of a kind) autographed die-cast replica of Buddy Lazier’s American Red Cross IndyCar is now up for auction on eBay. Model builder Eric Hensley has reproduced, in stunning detail, the Panther Racing Dallara car driven by Lazier in the September 11, 2005 race at Chicagoland Speedway. Proceeds of the auction will be donated to the American Red Cross. read more »
